Everyday we make an impact and our mission is successful because of YOU! We hope you're having a great start to the week and summer. In this month's newsletter, we're excited to share some photos from our 35th Annual Golf Tournament, recognize monumental celebrations in June, updates on our Grant Application (it's live and ready!) and an opportunity for you to showcase your story with us. Let's get United!

Impact Tours provide the opportunity to learn more about the issues affecting our community and how you can support the efforts of local nonprofits by donating to
United Way.
For each tour, we visit multiple United Way Program Partners throughout the scheduled time. You'll get an up-close look at the amazing work that is being done right here in the Chippewa Valley.

When you support UWGCV, you are investing in collaborative, innovative, research based and results-focused initiatives. These initiatives coordinate the work of local programs, service providers and community stakeholders in the Chippewa Valley. Together, we're working to solve our community's most pressing problems. Each Program Partner is funded under a specific initiative that is driven by a bold goal that keeps everyone working toward the same mission. Each newsletter we'll talk about how the featured program fits into our initiatives.

FINANCIAL STABILITY BOLD GOAL:
Chippewa Valley residents will achieve self-sufficiency through employment training and personal money management skills.
|
|
Program Description:
The mission of Junior Achievement is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy by recruiting and training community volunteers to teach 2-12 students
about financial literacy, career/work readiness and entrepreneurship. These skills help
students escape or avoid a life of poverty, achieve their educational goals and aspire to a
career in which they will excel. Junior Achievement will prepare young people to successfully navigate their economic future. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Northwest has been operating for the past 33 years throughout the Chippewa Valley under a 20 member Board of Directors. JA collaborates with 600 volunteers and 700 teachers to implement JA.

We're here to give you an overview of what our Program Partners do to impact our communities. We asked them to answer a few quick and direct questions for better insight as to what they do, how they do it, how United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley (UWGCV) supports them, any immediate needs they may currently have and any other notes they'd like you to be aware of. Here's what Junior Achievement had to say:
|
Please tell us who you are and what you do to strengthen the Chippewa Valley
At Junior Achievement we believe in "possible." Each day, we work to help young people discover what’s possible in their lives. We do this by helping them connect what they learn in school with life outside the classroom. We let them know it’s possible to invest in their future, to gain a better understanding of how the world works, and to pursue their dreams. We show them that it’s possible for tomorrow to be a better day.
We are looking forward to the upcoming year and application as we move into the 18-25 year old space. We currently are working with CVTC, UW-Stout, and UWEC on providing tools, lessons, and activities for young people to help them navigate life and make smart financial decisions after high school and beyond.
|
|
How does UWGCV strengthen your program?
The alignment with the United Way, helps expose JA as an option to volunteers who are interested in serving and giving back in the community. A key strength is when the United Way goes to the partner businesses they highlight program partners like Junior Achievement, so those who donate to the United Way can see where their dollars of impact are in the community.
What is your greatest
program need?
The greatest program need to allow Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Northwest to grow and serve the 14,500 youth are volunteers. We work with more than 500 volunteers throughout the year.

"Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBT Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans."

"Juneteenth commemorates the 1865 emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This holiday reminds us of the importance of freedom and equity for all."
"Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas."
