March 29, 2023 Newsletter

We're marching into a new season and springing into action with events galore. We're also showing more gratitude toward our affinity groups this month, we can't thank them enough. Thank you to all of our Emerging Leaders and Leadership Circle Members for getting involved and stepping up for your communities. You diversify our perspective and bring in your expertise to make us better. We're looking forward to all of the good we can do together to grow our impact here in the Chippewa Valley, you're kicking off the year with some great volunteer opportunities and events!

This month we're taking a moment to introduce you to our Emerging Leaders Advisory Council Chair, Tiffany Thompson. Tiffany is committed to helping us bring up the next generation of volunteers. She's a force for good and we're glad she's here to support us!

Hello Chippewa Valley, my name is Tiffany Thompson, I am the current Chair of Emerging Leaders Advisory Council for United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley (UWGCV). Born and raised in the Chippewa Valley, I have a deep and abiding love for the people and places that make it special. My family resides in Hallie and works in both Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire. Usually you can find me working at the Leinie Lodge, volunteering at a local event or supporting local community Chamber events. If I'm not at any of these places then you'll surely be able to find me at the baseball field, basketball court, football field or dance studio. Kids keep me on my toes daily!

I am thrilled to be marking my 8th Anniversary at the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company as their Marketing and Events Manager. Drawing on my 17-year career in hospitality, I strive to apply my expertise by serving on as many local boards as my career and family life allow. I am currently serving as the Vice President of Chippewa County’s Tourism Board, Ambassador of the Chippewa Falls Chamber, NWSF Board Member and of course Chair of UWGCV’s Emerging Leaders. I am very passionate about helping to build strong and vibrant Chippewa Valley communities that are inclusive, welcoming and supportive of all their members.

As the current chair, I am committed to developing and nurturing the next generation of talented leaders in this organization and beyond. In 2023 we plan to give back to our communities by focusing on Volunteerism, Education and Advocation. The key issues that we want to impact our Homelessness and Child School Needs in the Chippewa Valley. These matters align with UWGCV’s Basic Needs and Education Initiatives, which serve our region’s most pressing problems.

We want to show the Chippewa Valley that we are future leaders in philanthropy and volunteerism in our communities. We’re committed to making a difference and leaving lasting change here. We plan to inspire others to do the same.

We celebrate our successes, this year our Winter Gear Drive for local schools provided necessary outdoor clothing for children allowing them to be safe and warm during the winter months' playtime. Dueling Pianos was a major success, and we are already planning for 2024! Watch for the promotion of our upcoming fundraising events!

We're planning a few community service projects, working with non-profit organizations like Agnes’ Table, Feed My People Food Bank and Hope Village – Tiny Housing Alternatives, Inc. Our first event is set for May 30, we're helping out at The Community Table. You can join us in volunteering by clicking this link and signing up. I humbly invite you and anyone you know who is ready to make a positive impact on their community and grow their leadership skills to join our Emerging Leaders Team!

Continuing to put our Program Partners in

the Spotlight!

This is the fourth edition of our Program Partner Spotlight, we hope you're enjoying the opportunity to learn more about the organizations we work with. Our mission is to highlight a different Program Partner each month to build awareness as to what they do and how we, United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley (UWGCV), invest and collaborate with them. We're shining a celebratory light on the amazing programs and people who work humbly to support and strengthen our Chippewa Valley communities every day.

This month's Program Partner Spotlight is featuring Family Resource Center and ‘Triple P’ Positive Parenting Program:

When you support UWGCV, you are investing in collaborative, innovative, research-based and results-focused initiatives. These initiatives coordinate the work of local programs, service providers and community stakeholders in the Chippewa Valley. Together, we're working to solve our community's most pressing problems. Each Program Partner is funded under a specific initiative that is driven by a bold goal that keeps everyone working toward the same mission. Each month we'll talk about how the featured program fits into our initiatives.

EDUCATION BOLD GOAL:

Children in the Chippewa Valley will enter school ready to succeed.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Family Resource Center supports ‘Triple P’ Positive Parenting Program. It is a tiered parenting education intervention that provides ‘just enough information at just the right time’ to increase parents’ skills, self-efficacy, and confidence. Triple P helps parents build loving relationships with their children, praise desirable behaviors, teach new skills and spend less time managing misbehavior. In over 35 years of research in 26 different countries, Triple P has been shown to improve the mental health of parents and children, decrease child abuse and neglect, and improve children’s behavior so they can succeed in school and life.

Family Resource Center is conveniently located in Oakwood Mall, and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We're here to give you an overview of what our program partners do to impact our communities. We asked them to answer a few quick and direct questions for better insight as to what they do, how they do it, how United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley (UWGCV) supports them, any immediate needs they may currently have and any other notes they'd like you to be aware of. Here's what Family Resource Center had to say.

Please tell us who you are and what you do to strengthen the Chippewa Valley:

Since 1999, the Family Resource Center has helped parents connect with each other and build support for their children. We focus on ages 0-5 when most brain development occurs, setting the stage for a child's lifelong success. Like a public library for parenting, FRC offerings are free to parents: Playgroups, Parent Cafes, Home Visiting, Toy Lending

Library, a phone helpline, and many types of parent education and support. We recognize that parents are children's first and most important teachers and focus on families' strengths and how to build on them (see Fiveforfamilies.org). We collaborate with other agencies in the community. For the past 4 years, we have also served as the Triple P hub for Eau Claire County, bringing this evidence-based suite of programs to our community to support parents of children 0-16.

Kids love to hug our giraffe while their parents explore techniques for supporting their children's development.

How does UWGCV strengthen your program?

UWGCV is a key funder and promoter of the work we do. Through them, we connect to our local community to help families across the Chippewa Valley.

What is your greatest

program need?

We need gift cards and other giveaways to share with families and use as participation incentives.

Parents enjoy our gated 'Baby Pond' protected area for infants.
